City Approves Cost Sharing Agreement

City approved cost sharing agreement with Santa Margarita Water District.  The project involves a new water reclamation plant, storage, office building, and recreation corridor access.  Projected to be completed in late 2024/early 2025.

Temporary fire station installation

While a new Orange County Fire Authority Station 24 is constructed, an interim temporary station is planned to be installed behind the former Stein Mart building. Once the new station is complete, this will clear the way for construction of the Core Area improvements in the second half of 2024.

Stein Mart building purchase finalized

Stein Mart building purchase and sales agreement is processed and finalized. The purchase includes the entire Stein Mart parcel, including the building, parking lot and landscape areas behind the building.

Water District construction

Santa Margarita Water District begins the demolition of the original Oso Water Treatment and Reclamation Plant. New facilities will include the Event Barn, a joint project between the Santa Margarita Water District and the City of Mission Viejo, which will be used to host concerts, art exhibits, corporate meetings and many other community-based gatherings.

City Council approves the purchase of the former Stein Mart building and begin working on the details of the Core Area Vision Plan.

Stein Mart Building

Stein Mart Corporation shuts its doors in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. The City is approached by the Kinsler Family Trust with an offer to purchase the former Stein Mart building, located within the City’s Civic Core area in the heart of the Northern Paseo of the Village Center.

Oso Creek Golf Course

The City purchases the Oso Creek Golf Course and open space. This important landscape, nestled in the central part of Mission Viejo, links Lake Mission Viejo and the northern part of Mission Viejo with the Oso Creek Trail and establishes a Northern Recreational Core along the Oso Creek.

Bikeway and Transportation Connectivity Master Plan

The City adopts a Comprehensive Bikeway and Transportation Connectivity Master Plan that links community facilities to our City trail system and to the larger regional trail system outside City limits. The adopted bike trail outline highlights the Oso Creek Trail system as the central spine of Mission Viejo.

Civic Core vision concepts

Three concepts are presented for the visioning of The Village Center, located at Marguerite Parkway and La Paz Road. “Embracing the Creek” is chosen by the community as the preferred concept to implement. The City Council approves the Core Area Vision Plan.
